I will be buying a Mesa cab in the near future and I was wondering what power amps aside from the camplifier are good and cheap. Anyone using the crown xls series? Any other suggestions?

I'm currently saving for a power amp and I've decided to go for the Matrix GT1000FX. It's solidstate but has been made to sound and feel like a tube amp.
Matrix have a selection of power amps at different prices but it depends what figure you have in mind.
I decided to save that bit more so hopefully I won't have to sell up and save again in the future.
I doubt I'll be the first to say this but if you're spending big bucks on a Kemper and an expensive cab, it's probably worth buying a decent power amp so that doesn't let your sound down.
That or you may hit gold and find a cheap power amp that works and sounds great.
Rocktron do the Velocity 300 which is Solidstate and to my ears sounds that way. I've heard they weigh a tonne and can be unreliable as well though. Apart from that they are well priced
Thomann have a really cheap Harley Benton Power amp but I have no idea what that's like. I asked for opinions on this power amp but I don't think anyone owns one.
Just a few ideas

How loud do you need to go?

Jamming, small club - ISP Stealth -

This is not necessarily an advantage with the Profiler
But actually, the Matrix is much flatter than a (guitar) tube amp. -

I've used a peavey ipr1600 until I got a powered rack. I've only changed for the sake of sizing down my rig. The power amp sounded just as good as the built in ICE power amp does now in the powered KPA.

even cheaper..half the power..still a lot + enough: http://www.thomann.de/de/the_tamp_e400.htm

The lowest cost option that is also widely used is the ART SLA-1. 260w bridged mono at 8 ohms.

Magnum 44 works just fine. Done outdoor gig (Small venue) and rehearsels, loud enogh by far. Usually volume at 9 a clock and KPA below half way up.

I have been using a Rocktron Velocity 100 and it works and sounds great. The only draw back is the fan noise but it's tolerable.

I have one for my bedroom studio, and it's great. I keep the volume somewhere around 2 or 3, with the master volume knob on my KPA to control the level, and I can't get it past 5 or 6 before things are falling off the shelves. Until you're jamming with a full metal band, anything more than about 50 watts is pretty unnecessary these days.
