I absolutely LOVE this! The tone reminds me of Beck, whose tone I really lust after, and the technique is outstanding too. I get so fed up sometimes with the way people pigeon hole techniques. I've heard people criticising sweep people and tapping so many times as cleche techniques only used in metal, when in reality they are all tools that we can bend to our own artistry if we can be bothered to learn them, and this guy has certainly mastered his technique!

Erland is from the James Last band. Jame Last died this June.
Today I could try the JMP Pack by Gold Lion Profiles. By setting both Definition and Amp Compressor to around 4 I could get very close to that tone (within my own limits of course) with a G&L Interceptor (neck PU), which is basically a strato on steroids.
Very happy! Now I just have to learn how to play that way 
When I have time I'll try and write a review about that pack.

This is a very similar technique that Don Lappin uses. He's an assistant professor at Berklee College of Music and has developed his style completely around tapping due to his inability (like myself) to be able to shred as efficiently with a pick. Don's also got a great instructional video that I've (unfortunately) only scratched the surface of.
