Abbey Road like - ADT - artificial double-tracking ( a dream for every band with just one gutiarist )

Interesting thing.
It does the same as the double tracker in the Line 6's Vetta did.

I think this can be done with the stock plugins in reaper, possibly logic also - and maybe other daws as well.

I wonder how similar it is to the waves doubler.

For waves plugins in general: never buy until it goes on sale (and it will! :-))

Please elaborate how you would do this.
You'd need tuning alteration PLUS amplitude alteration at the same time, in a kind of random fashion.
I wish Kemper would implement something like the Vetta's doubletracker (which was a uniqueand awesome effect) into the profiler.

Haven't really messed with it myself - maybe reaper is the only one that can do it. But you can modulate any plugin parameter with an LFO in reaper. Pretty elaborate, and pretty darn nifty.

I don't quite see the amplitude modulation part... ?

anyway, with the Morph something like this can be done:
I just set up a extremely short delay (5ms), almost as loud as the dry signal (90%) and a small Delay 2 offset (80%).
Then I used Morph to change the delay time from 5ms to 9ms.
this will give you the detuning - since the Profiler's delay reacts like an analog delay when the delay time is changed - and since you control the modulation with an expression pedal you can make it completely random.

No, IMHO Don's method would make for a very tedious workaround of what it needs to achieve here.

well, the OP is about the Abbey Road ADT process and so is my post

This sounds like something very useful in the studio or live. Fattens up your guitar sound. Guys like Dimebag apparently used an MXR unit for this.

Could it be done with a normal delay, now that we have the ability to use more than one? If so, can anyone share ballpark settings I could try out? I'm figuring a short repeat time and Low feedback should work well, with the mix set in favour of the original sound.

Anyone have alternate ideas?

The Detune/Pitch effect approach has always sounded more like double tracking to me than a short delay.

The old "fake stereo" is to put a slight delay to one side of the signal. This sound nice in the middle of the stereo field but it is a dangerous thing to do and totally not advisable since those signals are highly vulnerable to phase cancellation. If you use this live and step out of the stereo field the signals might cancel out each other completely.

Yeah, that's 'cause they'll cancel each other out when summed to mono (such as when played back through a single speaker).

You could try a pitched signal panned to the other side, nightlight, with a slow, sine-wave-style modulation applied nice and shallowly, so that the net effect is neither sharp nor flat. To take it further, you could pass, say, the right side dry on to the next slot and modulate that with an inverted copy of the left side's mod settings, so that when it swings sharp on one side, it's flat on the other. All pitch-mod points along the timeline would therefore result in net-zero deviation from the original pitch.

"Random" mods to both sides could sound pretty cool too, but unforeseen cancellation will occur at "random" points when summed to mono.

This is just theory off the top of my head, and I've no idea how well the result would survive mono summing. I've got a repository of this sort of stuff that I've been carrying there to try out once I eventually start recording after well over 20 years' break.
