I think the only thing that would be profilable would be the SY-300's distortion generator.
I don't think oscillators are profilable at all, and neither are all the in-built time based FX.
Bought myself a Boss SY-300. 100% fun ( EDIT: lasting one week). ;)

The Kemper's internal effects can be used to create retro synth sounds. You can use Shaper/fuzz for oscillators, EQ/wah for filter, Pitch for multiple voices.

In my normal band context I have no real use for it
You nailed it: I guess it all comes down to whether you have a real world application for it.
In my rock-fusion trio I already make extensive use of MIDI guitar (have an Axon AX-100 MKII, a Motif XS Rack and two Access Virus Rack - from the makers of our beloved KPA - in my rack), so I guess in my case such a device may have interesting applications (hence I orderer one yesterday ).
So, even if you returned it, thanks a lot for the heads up man. -
Motif XS Rack and two Access Virus Rack
Incredible rack, Soloist!I can only dream!

Thanks @Monkey_Man ! It's an ever evolving setup. This is it's most recent layout:Soon it will probably show the SY-300 on top, next to the M5 (if it goes on like this I'll have to get a drawer...)
I'm currently working on replacing Ecstasy, G-Force, Intellifex and M5 (and eventually the cab) with the KPA, to make it a bit lighter. -
That's quite a setup, @Soloist74. I have a Motif Rack XS as well, and I've been looking at incorporating a Virus into my setup. How do the Virus racks compare to the newer ones? They're Virus B racks, right?

I play in 2 cover bands and use my GR55 with my Kemper every time I play. I have used guitar synths live for going on 30 years
I use the GR-55 also in a cover band. We have no keyboard player so I just use it to put an organ or string layer in a few (very few) songs. I don't use it for soloing as I think the tracking still sucks. Also play a song or two on a keyboard because it's still easier to play synthesizer sounds on a keyboard. What I like about the GR-55, is that it has also an audio sample play function, so I use that in a few songs (for an effect or even a string loop). And that it has guitar models. If I need to play in a different tune, or even if I need an acoustic guitar sound, I use the GR-55 for it. Not perfect, but good enough for the purpose of the song. Although the SY-300 is really tempting because the tracking problems are "solved" since it doesn't do pitch-to-midi conversion, I don't think I would spend the money for it, it's a bit expensive. I also wouldn't sell the GR-55 to buy one, because the guitar modeling and audio sample play stuff is missing on the SY-300 (bummer).

Those are two Virus Rack Classic, which is basically a Virus B with one oscillator less and polyphony reduced to 16 voices (still more than enough for MIDI guitar though)
The Virus Rack XL is based on the Virus C instead (with no limitations other than the interface).
Both have been out of production for quite a while now. -
