New Reverbs not coming for V5.0?

  • 1-For recording, it's very rare that anyone needs to record the wet signal and that's when reverb matters most, hence current reverbs in Kemper aren't crucial.
2-For Live use the venue or room will influence the reverb regardless what you use. IMHO it's unrealistic or practical to demand the utmost highest quality reverbs for live use. It just isn't done and thousands over thousands of guitarist got that taken care of using old spring reverbs or any of the digital reverbs that are in abundance anywhere you look , including inside the KPA.

The Kemper reverbs are more than adequate for live use and that doesn't imply that there are any sacrifices involved.
I wouldn't mind to get more variety in reverbs but this is by no stretch a do or die situation.

  • While I agree that not all FX are immediately discernible to an audience, finding a signature for your band is really important.

Could be anything, a funky wah sound, a nasty fuzz, pitch shifted delays or shimmer crystals or whatever.

Once the audience latches on to that sound on your recording, it is very important to be able to replicate it live.

There are countless instances of bands that do not sound at all like their recordings when they play live. And often, this is a bad thing.

While the finer nuances of reverb can easily be lost, you can definitely craft a tone using it that is replicable across multiple spaces.

In that regard, using an average reverb (not saying this is the Kemper) versus using an excellent reverb isn't really much of a competition. The nuances may be lost, but I want the best possible tool possible in my arsenal, given the off hand chance that I have a fantastic setting and everything translates very well.

Also, it is not inconceivable that Kemper comes up with something with which trumps a Strymon. That's something that can even be used in a recording situation.

As I said I would be the first to enjoy new killer fx..if they would not have any impact on the quality and reliabilty on the basic amp-models..

Actually this is my only "concern".

This is why I dont understand these almost daily now "requests" for "new high quality FX"..leave this to the KPA-team.Obviously these guys are working hard to make their product better and they know better than anyone when new upgrades are possible without to have any impact on the "core idea" of the Profiler..which is to deliver a great, professional sound tool for all kinds of live-and studio work..

    I just dont understand this impatience..sometimes it seems to me that this is not just impatience but real pressure on a small company allthough there is the knowledge that this pressure could end up(ofcourse only if the company let this pressure affect them in their work) in a faulty,buggy end result..and who wants this;

Actually this is where many of us who really love their profiler for what it is (best tubeamp-simulation-tool out there) should jump in and show some "support" for the company. For that they will have all the necessary time to deliver the best result with no harmfull compromises.I dont know if the KPA team would ever admit that their (much bigger) competitors are really playing a hard and unfair game to compensate their sound-deficits in their amp-models but from my experience every small company needs also some "good will " and even (if you like) some "protection" from nasty, unfair and big competitors who do almost everything to take back shares they lost and increasingly loose..

Kemper has shown a lot of fairness to their customers..this includes price of the KPA,support, free upgrades and some other things. They deserve at least some more patience from the customers side.

  • As a bassplayer with a Kemper powerrack (and I do not see many of them posting on the forum.....) I have tested the other solutions like the Helix as well.
Most of them seem to have been designed for guitar players. Or, 99% of the features and patches are for guitar. Not willing to pay for such devices....

Although the Kemper should improve on the (bass specific) FX side, it has the most bass specific profiles available.
FX are high quality and work great live and in the studio,
Having said that, I do operate the KPA with at least 2 pedals (a synth and the H9).

  • Nikos, I agree with you. This is why I started this thread. I saw that people were talking as though new reverbs were coming. Really causing a lot of people to now expect this. I always had my doubts since I'd never actually heard anyone from Kemper make this statement so thought it would be a good idea to (re)set expectations of the community regarding reverbs, really in support of the Kemper team. Really so there would be a clear understanding of what is and is not being worked on so that the Kemper team can have a little space on this.

  • #Nikos

I honestly don't see any shortcoming with the existing "tone engine" part of the Kemper. Therefore, clamouring for some improvement to be made does not make sense to me. There is no "110% more real".

I do see some lacunae with respect to FX though, just compare a Strymon reverb to the Kemper, or say something like the crystal whatchumacallit on the Axe FX.

In that respect, I am grateful for having an awesome tone as the foundation for my sound using the Kemper.

I'm also not jealous about FX. The ones that are there in the Kemper are outstanding.

But I think Kemper Amplifiers has a similar vision to what I have for the device. "An all-in-one machine".

I have never cribbed that a new firmware took a long time to come, or that promised features were taking their own sweet time.

But I know that good stuff is coming, and I want to encourage the company to make that a reality.

Definitely the best "guitar equipment" company out there in my book. I haven't even looked at another device with much interest in the last three years.

  • @KPA-Leader

I am also waiting for some spring reverb and ofcourse for the new delays but I have waited even more than a few decades for a hot rockin´ machine with all the digital advantages and the KPA is this machine..add to this that we have to do with a really nice company & nice persons ..anyway..

There is a lot of talking in all forums and I guess we will see a lot of new cool features in the very next few months..learning patience (and some faith in the goodwill of other persons and their visions) was never my forte but I did it,one of the most interesting exerience in my life.. ;(:D

    @nightlight

I guess we all agree that there is no 110% in "better tone"..but there is a lot of danger to loose some % if the KPA becomes to "loaded" and looses some "core reliability"..this is all I wanted to say.The KPA (at least for me) is already the "perfect all in one solution" and if it becomes even better with an editor and new, better FX...again..I would be the first to unbox 20 years old ideas and intros which were packed with delay-orgies and reverb-porn using good ol´TCs,SDEs and PCMs..

But as I said. These "jam, bedroom & rehearsal"-stuff is just 2-3% of what I did in the last years and even less of this what I do today, allthough I cant wait to "do it" again (right time, right place.. ;) )..and I will as soon the KPA team will find a way to do all this stuff in their nice & inspiring way without to loose the focus of who their "core customers" are and not to focus on what silly musicians (including myself) "want" with all our spasmodic GAS but what musicians really need..

  • I have spent decades explaining to people that "If there was a small digital gizmo that could make the sound of my (fill in the blank) tube amp, you can bet I would be using it.... but something like this just doesn't exist.

Today, I no longer say that. All my tube amps are gone (only a lone 2x12 VHT cab left), and I setup in about 3 minutes with tone that is perfect every single gig. Pretty great gizmo.

That took about 30 years for me. If great tube tone was ALL the KPA did, I would still use it. Fortunately, it does lots of other things pretty darned well.

My only want is the double tap delay for my U2 covers. Sure, I have a single tap on a VOX amp rig that sounds pretty decent, but without the 2nd tap, I do miss the sound.

As pointed out though, this is a very small percentage of what I do with my KPA. I really couldn't be happier with the device. It is the best gig-rig I have ever owned .... by a mile and then some... and I owned nothing but boutique tube amps before the Kemper.

Sure, I'll be happy to have the new delay's and new verbs when they come out, but until then I have some pretty sweet sounding JTM's, Soldano's, JCM's, and Mesa's in my little rig that I will never part with.

  • The thing I remember most about sitting 12th row center at the Pink Floyd Animals tour at Madison Square Garden was how raw/cutting/clean David Gilmour's tone was, really as simple and pure as a classic blues player. It was the kind of tone that sets young dudes on a lifelong tone quest, that's for sure. The reverb and echo back then was hard to discern from the venue itself and the ethereal context for his solos was primarily thanks to Nick Mason. Amazing. I love David Gilmour these days too, he's absolutely killing it. But he really did make his name as one of the kings of 'spacey' guitar with an unfettered tone that got out of the way of his personal voice as a musician. It wasn't the effects.

I'm certain that DG never uses reverb although I can't recall where I heard him say this. I've seen him play live on three occasions now and the man is the very reason I went from mucking around with an acoustic to taking the guitar seriously and his tone has always been sublime and of course, you're spot on that despite his famous use of effects, his technique always outshines it.

Please, no one get me wrong; of course I'm looking forward to anything that Team Kemper want to give me free of charge and I do understand why many players want to and will use fancy effects. I'm certainly not arguing that fancy effects aren't good it's just that maybe the importance is being overplayed.

  • If effects were really important to me, I'd buy some Swiss-army knife midi multieffector and stick it on my Kemper. Waiting for Kemper to come out with all the effects that I want to have now seems like holding onto a lightbulb and waiting for the world to spin around me in order to screw it in.

I hate emojis, but I hate being misunderstood more. :)
