My wife is an incredibly generous gift-giver, but also incredibly frugal. So she compromises and buys me pedals and accessories and stuff. And she doesn't care either, as long as the bills are paid and, you know, I actually spend some time with her instead of always playing with my toys.

Nah, you don't need a girlfriend. Honestly, I love my wife, but women take up time. But, then again, you want to spend time with them too... my solution is I just don't sleep anymore. Haha.

My wife is very good and doesn't question my gear purchases. However...the problem can be making time for her vs playing with my gear. She doesn't like it if I leave her sitting on her own all night!
I suggested a defined 'music time' in the week so she knows exactly when she will see me next! 
Anyone with kids? I need hints on how to balance that one vs music time shortly...;) Get the kid playing guitar early!

Yep with children its hard, i normally do most of my playing at night when they are in bed and im in the studio. Wife watch the rubbish on the telly i play guitar and mess with my toys then i come in and sit with her and we watch a film etc

There are certainly other things you can watch besides films. You can watch TV shows, instead, for instance. Or grass grow. Or a parade. Or the neighbors with a 40x magnification telescope. You know, etc.
