Hi All, as usual, what sounds good live doesn't usually work in a mix. I'm recording in drop A, and so is it just me or do these profiles relate more to live performance than recording as when I track them they have no presence in the mix. I'm really having to crank up the treble and presence knob to try to get them to cut, assuming there is room in the mix that is. The profiles seem blah. So to my point.... How are you guys processing the profiles for recording low tuned distorted guitars?

When you say "these profiles" - which profiles are you talking about specifically?
A profile is a snapshot of a specific amp setup PLUS mic setup, and not all profiles will lend itself well to such extreme tunings.

You're in drop A... why would you expect the guitar to have much cut WITHOUT turning up the treble?

'live' also means 'in a mix'
considering that one of the strongest benefits of the profiler is that recording artists can take their tones from the studio to the stage - and love it...if you experience issues with a low tuned guitar I would investigate the following:
- strings (good acoustic sound when playing unamplified?)
- pickups (suitable for what you are doing?)
- Definition parameter -> increase if tone needs focus
- Clarity parameterI have one guitar set up with low B & an EMG81 and no problems.

Fair enough, on that note, I assume I need to look for some profiles created for low tuned guitars. Any recommendations?

I tried all the HIGH gain profiles that came with the KPA, can you recommend any profiles for low tuned guitars?

I recording this demo using an 8 string guitar tuned to drop E and a couple of free rigs I found on Rig Exchange. One of the profiles was a Framus Cobra profile and the other was a 5150 MKIII profile. The solo guitar was recorded using the profile shown at the beginning of the video. I'll see if I can find their exact name since I don't have them currently loaded in my Kemper. BRB!

Ha! I was slightly wrong in both occasions. The rhythm guitar profiles are from:
- Left Ch. = "GRS 5150II LM 05" by GRStudios.
- Right Ch. = "T. Framus Dragon Lea" by Arne 'Tandrin' G.
I had to modify both of these profiles a little bit, by rising the high mids, in order to get them to poke out a little more. These are both great profiles for metal though.
Enjoy!

he makes a valid point, though - updated my signature -
Don, it would be very helpful for users with links on top of the first forum page to the kemper homepage, rig exchange, ful user manuals, latest firmware, rig packs.
Many only know about the kemper forum, not what's available on the homepage. -

Agreed Don. Handy link to pop there, for sure.To split hairs 'though, you did say "... our site", which, coupled with the facts that your avatar is a Kemper Gain knob and the label immediately below it says, "Super-Moderator", should make it plainly obvious to most. The latter two facts alone served to inform me, and I'm sure many others, who you are... more or less.
I assumed most of us would've figured it out this way, hence the friendly ribbing of MDL, who no doubt took it like a champ and is currently plotting my demise.

No problem...... What I'm finding with my Kemper is that it just takes some shopping through many profiles to find the artifacts that work for low tuned guitars, and to my surprise I've found a few tweaks on a couple of the stock profiles did the trick..... Namely LL-Shmaatz, Grail, and Surgery
