I can't help but feel that the track could use a '70s-style dead kit.
Short, tight snare.

Tonight one of my monitors finally died after many years of service, so I had to try and mix this all in mono and guess where the stereo guitars might fit. Anyone got recommendations of a good studio monitor? What I have are Focal CMS-50's. I see GC in SF has some OTT Solo6 Twins that are crazy expensive and I'm sure excellent, but also some Neuman KH120 ii's that I might just be able to afford with the financing.External Content soundcloud.comContent embedded from external sources will not be displayed without your consent.Through the activation of external content, you agree that personal data may be transferred to third party platforms. How about a little piece of Shaft-style wah to add? Funky anyways

It actually sounds crisp and on vocals.
I have JBL 306s but the 305s ($149ea and highest ratings) would have worked too. I'd suggest you buy from Sweetwater since they give a free 2 year warranty on just about anything. And then find wattage and frequency similar to what you are replacing if you were happy with those.
Sweetwater also has 0% for 24 months. My wife hates that card.
See some options and ratings..

Thanks deadman42 and BayouTexan !
Sweetwater are great, but I’d like to find something in my area so I don’t have to carry on working on a single monitor for too long. I really liked my CMS50’s but I’ve no idea what else out there sounds close to them. I’m gonna try cracking open the case to see if I can fix them. Just a little stressed about damaging that beryllium tweeter :O

I've had SW ship to Dallas in 3 days, but that was before covid crap. Let us know what you end up getting.

You are definitely using the right genre mix for your mono dilemma. And your vocals sound better too. Maybe this is a good thing.
-
Well most 50's and early 60's classics we recorded in mono, it fits you well

Thanks BayouTexan and waraba !

And your vocals sound better too.
Agreed.
I was just going to say that the pitch component of the vox is coming through more-effectively now Brother Per.

Pure dint of luck I assure you. Though still no stereo speakers to test here again, sometime soon though.

My first instinct was to think that it may well have something to do with your having to monitor in mono now.
