Noise removal plugins, any ones that stand out?

Not sure about for that sound specifically, but Izotope RX is kind of the gold standard.

That could complicate things a little AJ, in that you're not going to get as good a result as you would if the sound was more-static / unchanging in nature if you were to use a learn-and-apply plugin, which is the way to go short of investing in RX (hefty price tag).

The best-value and most-effective realtime plugin I'm aware of is Klevgrand's Brusfri at $60 US RRP. It's on special now at $36 which makes it a no-brainer IMHO. I've actually been waiting a year for it to be discounted, so your timing is impeccable and I'd go for it, no question. Most folks haven't heard of it, but you can thank me later.

Correct me if I'm wrong but judging from its description on their website that Brusfri plugin seems to be a simple noise remover that takes a noiseprint that it then uses to calculate the offending noise (which is present in the noiseprint) out of the signal. If that is correct it would not be of great help for @nightlight 's feedbacks, would it?

Yes, I think it would, Arne, which is why I suggested it. It won't break the bank either, so no buying a baseball bat to swat a fly (iZotope RX).

It identifies where the noise lies frequency-wise and uses frequency-tuned gates to remove it. If you listen to the guitar-chord example on that page you can hear how effective it is without eating into the sustained die-out of the sound. Impressive, IMHO, especially for the price.

The claim of phase-issue-free removal should not be underestimated. I haven't had the pleasure of using a NR plugin since the TC Electronic PowerCore days, but I loved the PoCo one and found it super-effective. It did, however, create subtle phasing anomalies, which is what this one claims to avoid. The PoCo one also identified the noise print first, but then used narrow EQ bands to remove it, which is why IMHO the phase issues occurred. One could compromise between artefacts and removal level, obviously ("amount" setting).

This is one reason I said that it's IMHO the best-value, most-effective one I know of. You should theoretically be able to push it harder (remove noise to a ridiculously-low or even zero level) without damaging the sound too much... in theory. Still haven't tried it myself, but I know Skippy (PlugIn Guru) uses it on all his lifestreams 'cause he has a noisy portable air conditioner in his room (very-loud!) and he's blown away by how-effective it is as a realtime instantiation on his master buss. Everything audio passes through it including VI's and so on and he plays and speaks through it in realtime. If you listen to any of his Saturday PooToob streams, you'd never guess there was any sort of reduction on anything.

Yes, but how would it identify those feedbacks in @nightlight 's recording, since those do not occur all the time. And I suppose, if it did identify the feedbacks, would it not remove the feedback frequencies from the whole recording?

You choose a section where the noise is isolated and the plugin analyses that, Arne. That's how all the analyse-and-apply NR plugs work.

Well, therein lies the magic of clever programming, mate. If I had to guess I'd say that the gates are coded to intelligently remove the noise; they'd not be "fully-active" all the time 'cause that would be like applying cut EQ holus-bolus to the entire track.

Just as the "sneaky" MP3 algorithms employ different strategies depending upon the programme material at any given point in time, I'd say that these frequency-tuned, "intelligent" gates do likewise, behaving in such a way as to minimise apparent noise. "Apparent" meaning what we perceive; the algorithm may choose to leave it intact if it's masked by other frequencies at any given point in time.

As I Implied, I've no idea; just speculating. However it's done, it works. If you listen to that guitar-chord fade on the page I linked to, you might be as impressed as I was.

Yes, I know, but that seems to be the problem in nightlight's track. If I understood correctly the feedbacks are not isolated.

they were (perhaps still are?) selling a smaller version of RX called RX Elements... that gave you those sorts of modules but not the full blown program.
