I am not listening to any new music because I don't want it to influence any of my songwriting. Plus I still have tons of old songs to study in depth. Does that make me weird?
What kind of music are you listening to right now?

If it sounds good to me I'm happy to absorb it into the influence toolbox. I stopped worrying about weird during the puffy sleeves era.

I remember when Raul Midon was on Letterman for the first time 15 years ago. He was a friend of a buddy of mine from MOTUnation and the forum member was excited for Raul, figuring he might finally get the kudos and exposure he deserved.
Everyone loved him of course, but nothing big seemed to come of the exposure he received that night.
Just found the clip:

I love Raul's percussive playing - and the trumpet for sure. First thing reminds me of this guy... great song with incredible bass playing as well

Yup, he's got a more-nuanced style than Raul, Michael.
Ever notice that his falsetto sounds just like Philip Bailey, like @ 3:20?

One of my alltime favorites when listening to live music. Such great interaction between Candy and Ulco. And there is so much more in that song than the 3min radio edit reveals. Also very nice how she leaves Ulco the stage for the guitar solo...
