Edit: never mind. Bad reading on my part.
Powercab 112 and 112 Plus - new FRFR alternative?
-
-
A good chance that Kemper and Lone 6 becomes friend.
Indead a very interesting box -
Have one on order...lets see how it sounds.
-
This cab looks really useful if it sounds good. .Seems like a great option especially using any direct profile. A direct profile and multiple options for different cabs.
-
Hang on, just seen the price....£555 for a passive cab? Blimey!
I see 500w - £744.33?

Do you mention the line6 Powercab?
Both Versions are active.
The Plus Version you can feed mit IR's. -
This would be really handy. I have a reactive loadbox and some amps so the speaker sims and IR loading capabilities are brilliant. Seems like it would also play nicely with the Kemper as an FRFR cab.
Waiting for some reviews. If they sound good, I think I'll get two, the Yamaha dealership in SG will probably have them.
-
Anybody try one of these yet?
-
Not yet. My dealer says end of the month before they see one.
-
No videos yet, no comparisons, I will like to check a friedman ASC-10 vs this powercab +.
there was supposed to also come out a new smaller friedman ASM10... -
I will have one here Wednesday. Will do some videos

Can't wait to hear what you think!

I don't have videos but I will say the Powercab 112 Plus is very good.
The fact that you can load IRs into it is really cool.
I haven't used the Powercab with my Kemper yet but I did try it with my Headrush to check out how loaded IRs work.
I had a preset where the IR was disabled.
XLR out balanced into the Powercab, loaded an Own Hammer Mesa 4 x 12 IR into the Powercab via the computer editor.
Really great sound, better than the stock cabinets.
Then loaded the same IR into the Headrush, and used the Powercab as FRFR. Sound was exactly the same.
XLR line out for PA.
There is a second input that can be set to "monitor" so you can run a monitor feed from the PA so you can use as a monitor while hearing the cab sound from the emulator.
I would recommend the plus version as the regular Powercab does not have USB for IR loading and computer control or the screen controller on top. -
any news on that

Testing the new Powercab speaker sims vs a LRS IR. Four sections in the clip, 1st is LRS Alnico Cream IR 2nd is the Cream speaker sim, 3rd is the LRS IR room mic'd with a R121, 4th is the Cream speaker sim room mic'd with a R121.

Thank you deadpan for the demo, what do you think of this unit ?
-
While this speaker is advertised as FRFR I think that term is too loosely used. Do not buy it with that expectation.
Upon unboxing I was not happy with it at all comparing FRFR to my DSR112.
What I was pleasantly surprised of is it mics with a real mics very well (note I didn't do this in the video.) I imagine that is the base they used for the speaker models. For higher gain tone I do not like the the speaker sims in the room. This is a 1x12 cabinet and does not portray a 4x12 by any means. I was able to get close to a single speaker in a 4x12 with customizing an IR.
This concept has many flaws as your position in relation to the cabinet greatly effects the sound.
If a player is use to an open back 1x12 I could see them getting ok results with this, especially for cleaner sounds.
It can do gainier tone with IRS but it takes work.
In the end, I would not recommend this for the Kemper. The Kemper cabs section is magic and this will lose much of that with gain tones. So much that I used the Ax8 for the amp tones in the clip.

Thanks for the explanation!
Are you OK with the cab when not using the IRs? In other words, the cheaper one without them? -
As a full range flat response speaker using full profiles, no.
With the inbuilt speaker sims for clean and low gain, yes.
Inbuilt speaker sims for mid to high gain, no.
