What a player he was and such a huge influence in music and to so many youngsters to start their own guitar journey.
RIP Eddie Van Halen

RIP Eddie Van Halen
This is such sad news. No matter how well people went along with him. He definitely pushed modern rock guitar in a new dimension back then in my youth. Always been fascinated and a big fan... RIP Eddie...
Yeah I just heard about it. What a major downer! My best friend's gonna be inconsolable when I tell him about it later today; he's his hero.
Poor Eddie had a hip replaced in 1999, then a third of his tongue removed, the stomach surgery in 2012 and then the throat-cancer battle from 2014 onwards. He started drinking the year I was born and continued for 41 years.
So often we see gifted musicians and other artists' lives are train wrecks in terms of health, relationships and drug-and-alcohol abuse.
Thank God he won't be remembered for these things, but for his artistic output, unique voice in the world of guitar and for inspiring countless guys and gals to take up the instrument.
RIP, dear Eddie.
2020 keeps getting uglier. RIP Eddie.
Eddie was the reason I started playing guitar back in 1978. Heard Eruption and said what the hell was that? I want to do that!!!!
He was such an influence with me. He will be sadly missed, but he gave us so much.
RIP Eddie
I was never a fan of the band or EVH as a guitarist but no one can deny his talent both as a guitar player and songwriter and so many guitar players he have influenced. More and more of the old ones are dropping off one by one.
This is indeed sad news. A great talent and inspiration to many. Innovative, technically gifted and a great showman.
RIP Eddie.

what can I say RIP Eddy
While he was an inspirational guitarist, one of the things I always admired was the fact that he was happy. I saw them on the Women and Children tour, and countless times on TV, and he always looked like he was just having the time of his life. He was a joyous creature, which I'll miss as much as the music.
I knew guitarists who were so dumbfounded by what they heard on that first record that they completely stopped playing guitar.
It's a staggering loss. Eddie's guitar playing launched a million bands and probably inspired a billion guitarists to pick up the instrument.
RIP Eddie.
I am very sad about this. He was such a talented musician who influenced so many other musicians.
RIP Eddie.
Another hero...
The huge influence of this man is not limited to his innovative style. His dedicated approach to and journey in tone search brought us such great gear. And inspiration, how to develop your own voice!
What a loss!
Good times past and EVH was a big part of them. God's peace be with you Eddie!
I am shocked, stunned! RIP Mr Van Halen.
gutted! ????
There’s one hell of a rock band up there!
What a loss I loved Jump on the radio when I was a kid , but really discovered the guitar hero when I was starting guitar , and followed the best advice he gave to young guitarist : try catching up with phrasing with tools like hammer on , tapping , pull off, slide to develop a personal style. Absolutely loved the way he played rock music in a totally new epic way.
It's quite impressive that a strong influence of Eddie, Jimmy page, is still alive , one of the last legendary guitar hero.
EVH RIP - the one person that made me originally pick up the guitar...a tribute play to the great man.
Such a loss!
Truly one of only two guitarists that changed the landscape of electric guitar, in my opinion. Such a massive loss. Tonight I fumbled my way through Eruption as a tip of the hat to the master :
